God, You’re Too Much.
For you, O LORD, are most high over all the earth;
you are exalted far above all gods. Psalm 97:3 (ESV)
Great is our Lord, and abundant in power;
his understanding is beyond measure. Psalm 147:5 (ESV)
Too vast. Too mighty. Too far beyond me.
God is too much—I’ll never be able to wrap my arms around Him, much less hold Him.
Hallelujah.
Any god I could fully comprehend would be a version of myself, a figure stitched together out of whatever comfy notions held at the moment. In other words, not divine in the least.
Not God.
But if God is transcendent, above all things, how can I know truly Him?
By looking at Jesus.
Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs. Hebrews 1:1-4 (ESV)
See Jesus, see God. Know Jesus, know God, for Jesus “is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.” (Colossians 1:15 ESV)
Almighty, Eternal, Infinite God the Father sent His Son to bring me into His Kingdom. Then the Holy Spirit came to lead and guide me until I move on to Heaven.
Hallelujah, indeed!
Father, I praise Your infinite nature and am dazzled by Your love for me. Your greatness leaves me speechless. I love You, Lord. In Jesus’s name I pray. Amen.
